Radon-control design for commercial buildings

Commercial buildings with occupied lower levels carry real radon exposure for the people who work in them, and an increasing number of jurisdictions and lenders expect radon-resistant construction to be designed in from the slab up.

ANSI/AARST CC-1000-2018 covers radon-resistant design for large new buildings generally, which includes commercial occupancies that sit on or below grade. The engineered approach is the same in principle as multifamily: a gas-permeable sub-slab layer, a sealed membrane, and a vent network sized for the structure.

We produce a plan-specific design package from your drawings, with the sub-slab layout, vent routing, sealing details, and the code references your plan reviewer will check, all signed off by a certified radon professional before delivery.

What the design package covers

  • Sub-slab gas-permeable layer and membrane specification
  • Vent collection and riser routing sized for the commercial footprint
  • Penetration, joint, and below-grade wall sealing details
  • Provisions for activating the system if testing later requires it
  • Code-reference summary keyed to ANSI/AARST CC-1000-2018
